AMBLESIDE - AT THE HEART OF LAKELAND
Ambleside, situated one mile north of Lake Windermere at the centre of the National Park road system, has a wide range of tourist facilities and is a base for every opportunity to enjoy the Lake District.
Attractions in town include many interesting shops, excellent bakeries, tennis, putting, a lovely park with excellent children's playground, a two-screen cinema, a museum, and a town heritage walk.
On the edge of the town are delightful low-level riverside walks where you are immediately in glorious countryside unmatched by any other area of England. Many more serious walking routes begin almost on our doorstep, plus opportunities for boating, lake cruising, mountain biking and rock climbing.
There is no shortage of pubs serving bar meals, and lively restaurants cater for every taste and pocket.
